The Drugstore Berry Lip Edit

Welcome to your fall guide to the plethora of different berry lip shades available at the drugstore. Somehow over the past year or so I have accumulated an exorbitant amount these... I have no idea as to how this has happened seeing as I like to think I'm quite frugal with my spending and only buy things that I don't have to add to my collection, but it seems that I have a weak spot for a good drugstore berry lip product. That is to say, all of these are different formulations and though similar in shade, definitely distinguishable when worn (due to the varying finishes and whatnot)! Get ready for a photo-happy post featuring my five (FIVE!?) affordable products that'll brighten those lips and get them ready to leave your signature pucker on the side of your Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte, oh yes.

Wet 'n' Wild 906D Wine Room
Probably the first, cheapest, and most subtle one I acquired, Wet 'n' Wild's Wine Room is a steal at only $1.99 (plus there's always a sale going on at CVS/Walgreens/Rite Aid to get it for cheaper)! The formula is a bit drying so definitely would recommend a chapstick underneath, but it gives a nice mauve-toned berry look to the lip. It's super pigmented and will blow your mind for being so affordable. I think if you're still playing around with the idea of going darker/brighter, this is a great one to test the waters with.

Maybelline Color Whisper Berry Ready
The Maybelline Color Whispers came out after the Revlon Lip Butters took off as a sort of rival product, but I say they're completely different. This one is really smooth and almost watery compared to the thicker formula of the Lip Butters, staining the lip rather than just coating it. I love wearing this one to school because the color doesn't budge once it's soaked into the lip and still gives shine and moisture, even fading evenly when daily wear does take its toll. Berry Ready is not too dark and vampy for everyday use, and with the lighter formula it's effortlessness is a big advantage for the girl who doesn't want to look like she's trying too hard to embrace the autumn look (or look overdone for class -- like me!).

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, Crush
Lip crayons have definitely become a staple in my makeup collection as I have one for any occasion -- running late for class, amping it up for a summer night out, and cozying up at a cafe in my plaid shirt and boots (which is what I envision this one for). Application is a breeze because of the crayon formula making the perfect shape super achievable. The slight purple-tint deepens this one a bit more than the Color Whisper and looks super great on pale skin. I think if I had to choose any one of these five to keep if I had to give the rest up, I would pick this one because I get so many compliments every time I wear it and it's a no-fuss super star every time!

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipstick, 09
When I'm looking for a full on look-at-me berry lip I tend pull out this one. The Kate Moss line of lipsticks from Rimmel are absolutely amazing (and seeing as I think I now own 6 shades, I'm not just making this up!), and I couldn't help but bring this little one home with me during one of my CVS escapades. Unlike the previous products that have been mentioned, this isn't some wash of color or a simple stain; it's a wham-bam coat of intense, creamy lipstick and definitely means business. I think it's a great alternative to a classic red (like the Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in 01) on a night out, as it's got a bit more pink to it and isn't gonna take you straight to the retro look. Also a fun shade to wear to a concert, as I speak from experience!

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipstick, 107
I was suckered into buying this after Zoella said it was her favorite lipstick and I, being the easily influenced kid I was, decided I needed to wear dark lipstick. I don't regret my purchase at all, except for the fact that it's a little bit too dark and vampy for my current taste. Also the matte formula doesn't always sit well on my eczema-prone lips, so fair warning to those who might have problems with flaking as this is a drying formula. It doesn't quite come off as so in this photo, but it's definitely a way deeper color than I expected and a dramatic look -- I don't understand how Zoe pulls it off so effortlessly! I also think it may be a bit of a confidence issue, as I'm intimidated with drawing attention to myself by wearing such a bold lip, especially in my college setting where au naturale, even leaning toward hippie-natural, is the go-to look for many. However, I'm challenging myself to wear this at least twice before Christmas so I can justify keeping it in my stash. I'm thinking with just some mascara and a light cheek, some black skinnies and a white button-down it'll look not as scary as it does in my mind.

Scary aftermath of my swatch-fest... Looks a little like roses? Anywho, what are your thoughts on berry lips and which products might you recommend? I'd love to know!
