I woke up one morning before work on minimal sleep and groggy as ever, looked in my mirror before I grabbed my foundation, and thought "gawd those under eye bags look AWFUL." No amount of concealer helped and I even noticed it again a little later in the morning after trying desperately to cover it up, thinking something has got to change!! I'm a night owl so altering my routine to regularly get into bed before 12 AM is highly unlikely, and I can only imagine what my shambles my sleep schedule is going to become once school starts up again, so I decided I'd give in and see if I could find a miracle product to help me at least look like I'm awake and not some zombified monster. I'd heard some really good reviews and saw in-use footage of the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Eraser on meghanrosette and EleventhGorgeous' YouTube channels so decided to make a trip to Target so I could pick one up for myself.
Let me preface this post by saying this is a first impressions review and I don't mean to make any definitive judgements because I have yet to see how this product performs in the long run. I bought the shade light, which is the second color in a set of 6 (pale, light, medium, honey, brightener, neutralizer) and it's a really good match for my skin tone. It feels creamy and a bit like mousse as opposed to the heavier Revlon Colorstay Concealer which is the one I've been using for the past couple of months. The applicator is a domed sponge and the product dispenses as you twist the dial right under the sponge. I went ahead and swiped it back and forth under my eye and tapped it in with my finger. It blended in very easily and looks quite natural even though it's the only product on my face (I thought it would look like I put makeup just on my eyes but you really can't tell I'm wearing any at all because of the smooth consistency and soft texture that camouflages into the skin). It helps to brighten my under eye area and reduces the purple circles but doesn't rid of them completely. It might be a different story if I were to go in and do all of my makeup including foundation, but I wanted to see what this alone would do for my problematic circles (excuse the lack of care put into the rest of my face in these photos -- those eyebrows are lookin' gnarly!).
Overall, I think this concealer brightens my under eye area and gets rid of the purple in my dark circles really well. It looks very natural and I look more awake without looking like I have to rely on caked on concealer! Though it doesn't diminish all of the shadows created by the light, I think this does a way better job at providing a lightweight glow where my bags once were than the Revlon Colorstay Concealer which really looks like I packed the product on and weighs the area down. I'd say I'm pleased with this product upon first inspection, but I'm excited to see how well it wears with foundation and as I use it on a more frequent basis. How do you think it looks?
