I woke up one morning before work on minimal sleep and groggy as ever, looked in my mirror before I grabbed my foundation, and thought "gawd those under eye bags look AWFUL." No amount of concealer helped and I even noticed it again a little later in the morning after trying desperately to cover it up, thinking something has got to change!! I'm a night owl so altering my routine to regularly get into bed before 12 AM is highly unlikely, and I can only imagine what my shambles my sleep schedule is going to become once school starts up again, so I decided I'd give in and see if I could find a miracle product to help me at least look like I'm awake and not some zombified monster. I'd heard some really good reviews and saw in-use footage of the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Eraser on meghanrosette and EleventhGorgeous' YouTube channels so decided to make a trip to Target so I could pick one up for myself.
Let me preface this post by saying this is a first impressions review and I don't mean to make any definitive judgements because I have yet to see how this product performs in the long run. I bought the shade light, which is the second color in a set of 6 (pale, light, medium, honey, brightener, neutralizer) and it's a really good match for my skin tone. It feels creamy and a bit like mousse as opposed to the heavier Revlon Colorstay Concealer which is the one I've been using for the past couple of months. The applicator is a domed sponge and the product dispenses as you twist the dial right under the sponge. I went ahead and swiped it back and forth under my eye and tapped it in with my finger. It blended in very easily and looks quite natural even though it's the only product on my face (I thought it would look like I put makeup just on my eyes but you really can't tell I'm wearing any at all because of the smooth consistency and soft texture that camouflages into the skin). It helps to brighten my under eye area and reduces the purple circles but doesn't rid of them completely. It might be a different story if I were to go in and do all of my makeup including foundation, but I wanted to see what this alone would do for my problematic circles (excuse the lack of care put into the rest of my face in these photos -- those eyebrows are lookin' gnarly!).
Overall, I think this concealer brightens my under eye area and gets rid of the purple in my dark circles really well. It looks very natural and I look more awake without looking like I have to rely on caked on concealer! Though it doesn't diminish all of the shadows created by the light, I think this does a way better job at providing a lightweight glow where my bags once were than the Revlon Colorstay Concealer which really looks like I packed the product on and weighs the area down. I'd say I'm pleased with this product upon first inspection, but I'm excited to see how well it wears with foundation and as I use it on a more frequent basis. How do you think it looks?

Thank you so much (: I'd love to do a button swap!
DeleteLooks amazing, but I'm a little bit concerned about the applicator, I prefer to put the concealer on with my fingers! cc

ooh, yeah i can see where you're coming from. i feel like the formula is so lightweight, though, that this applicator is better than the fingers!
DeleteCovers really well! I'm so sad we don't have it where I live. I wanna try it!! hahah, I think I'd love the applicator and everything x
ReplyDeletei'm sure there are plenty of good dupes out there!!
DeleteThis look really good! I don't know how i feel about the applicator. I like to use my finger and then a setting brush! It looks amazing though! xx RenaKiss and Make Up
ReplyDeletei've never used a brush for concealer, but it sounds like it'd do the trick! i like this applicator because it covers a large area in little time and in a pretty even coat (:
Deletelove the look of this- covers so well! xx
ReplyDeleteit's really nice (:
DeleteI like the look of this...it seems like it's one of those products which do what they say on the tin:)
ReplyDeleteCharlotteHavs
definitely! i love it when products live up to their name :P
DeleteThis is my favorite undereye concealer! I definitely agree that it's very lightweight, but still very good at concealing and brightening dark circles. I was at Ulta with my mom a little while ago, and we both were looking for undereye concealers, so she ended up with this one and I got the Maybelline DreamLumi Touch. I have to say, I like hers a lot better! I'm definitely picking one up when I run out of mine.
ReplyDelete(By the way, I nominated you for a Liebster Award, if you're interested! You can check out the details here.)

ooh because of sanitary reasons? yeah... i wish there were a win-win for all makeup solutions!
DeleteIt looks really, really good! I've wanted to try it for ages but sadly they only have two shades where I live and since I'm as white as a sheet when it comes to skin colour, they're both too dark for me :/
ReplyDeleteawh, i wonder why it's only two?!
Deletesadly most of the products come to Europe in a reduced selection and then the companies' representatives for the individual countries make another selection based on what's most likely to sell and it really, really sucks big time.
Deleteooh i see, that's stupid!! i wish more brands would make all of their products available internationally
DeleteI love this product! nice coverage and lightweight feel sold me and I bought one for myself, love it so far! :)
ReplyDeleteyay, i'm glad we're on the same page (:
