Fancy Feet

Major apologies for the lack of regular posting... I feel like every time I think of writing a new blog post I get smacked in the face with the reality that I am a college student who can't even eat 3 proper meals in a day or get more than 4 hours of sleep on a weeknight... Yay, university coursework. If every reading response to Marx's "German Ideology" and critical analysis essay on some nineteenth century theorist that I've written in the past few weeks were blog-worthy material I'd be posting so regularly you'd be sick of all of my academic hoo-hah! My life has literally become a ridiculous mess of running out of printer paper and curling up on my bed to cry with my laptop writing papers on papers until 4 or 5 am for days on end. And then the 7:30 am alarm clock goes off before I know it and the cycle repeats itself. How I'm still functioning, I have no idea!

Excuses aside, I figured I'd take some time back for myself to write about non-academic things in hopes that it will remind me that life outside of school still exists. When I get the chance to really take in what's around me (and am not daydreaming about what words I'm going to use in my next paper... yes, I do walk around campus brainstorming effective sentence structures) I've been enjoying the crisp air around my face and overall buzz of energy that's feeding into the changing of seasons. Autumn is upon us (we've already had the first rain of the colder months last weekend!), and that means layering up on scarves and outerwear. I'm a bit sad to be leaving my tank tops and sundresses tucked away until next year, but I'm also really excited for sweater weather so I can wrap up in cosy knit things and order hot spiced ciders at Starbucks again. One of my absolute favorite things about autumn and winter is being able to wear boots and socks! That's where this little blog post came from, because I've recently come across some cosy little friends who will be keeping me company as the cold sets upon my little California college town.

I finally invested in a pair of brown leather riding boots last year, and with that came a sock obsession. I already had quite the collection of quirky socks from my visits to Kutsushitaya in Japan (favorite place ever -- just rows and rows and aisles upon aisles of SOCKS!), but I had never really ventured to buy any that went past my ankle. Then I discovered the beautiful displays at Urban Outfitters and thus began my love affair. The gray knee-highs we my go-tos last season. They're super stretchy and have little colorful confetti pieces that make for a cute shabby chic look. The other three are my recent finds. I dropped by one day and the socks were on sale 2 for $22, and seeing as I could save upwards of $8 (that's like a pair of socks in itself!) I decided to pick up some more knee-highs. The light pink cable knit ones look so adorable with my boots and perfect over dark wash jeans. They're super thick, too, so I don't have to worry about getting frostbitten toes! I have yet to try the maroon ones on, but I loved the button detailing on the side and can't wait to wear them with my black Uniqlo legging pants and my boots. They'd even be cute with my black rubber rain boots! The last pair I picked up are these lace socks that hit just above the ankle. I bought these because I have to go to a dress-up event on Friday and since my group's theme is "90s" I wanted to do a throwback to my childhood, when frilly socks were the thing. They are so adorable though and I think they'd look great with my gray H&M sneakers, oxfords, or maybe even black booties so the lace peeks out of the top. I havent' figured out how I'm going to pull them off outside of this event, but they are too cute to let go to waste! Do you have any tips on how to style socks, or recommendations for where I can get some more!? (:
