Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua

My motto for 2016 is minimal matters. I will admit, until a few years ago I was an avid thing-displayer, over-decorator, and general hoarder of useless stuff, but in recent months (maybe years?) I've grown to love the art of simplicity. Same goes for my makeup.

I used to think that my skin needed as much help as it could get so I opted for heavy coverage foundations to try and achieve ultimate pore-fection. Looking back at my naive habits, it probably did more damage than delivery. I was never happy with any of the results I got, and now that I think about it, it's probably because I was just wearing too much. That's not to say I don't still seek a bit of help evening out my skin tone and covering the redness, but I've realized I have pretty decent skin (thank the lawd, knock on wood) so I don't need that much product on my face... And that's why this little sucker is finally getting the rave review it deserves.

The Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation has long been natural-beauty loving YouTube gurus' staple foundation (think: Fleur de Force, Allison Anderson, Vivianna Does Makeup, etc.). It took me a while to come around to listening to their sage advice but I'm officially on the bandwagon and nothing can bring me down! The foundation is marketed as an ultra-light skin perfecting fluid that creates an "exquisite makeup experience." Truer words have never been spoken. I enjoy every bit of putting this on, from shaking it up (so satisfying to hear it mixing) to running a few lines down my fingers, dotting it on my face and rubbing it in to achieve that sheer, yet buildable, second skin. It just morphs into the perfect texture to tame the oilier areas without irritating the dry patches. You can't really tell that I'm wearing anything, which is a true testament to its greatness. Now when I try to wear anything like my Tarte Amazonian Clay 24 Hour Full Coverage foundation it feels like my skin is suffocating... I'm a changed woman!

The lasting power is decent enough, but since it doesn't look like I'm wearing much of anything anyway I'm not too mad about it having worn off by the end of the work day. I just like that it does enough to blur away the unevenness in my skin tone and gives me a fresh-faced confidence boost. The fact that it's a Chanel product also makes me feel instantly classier as I use it. Putting on my makeup in the morning feels like such a treat, and I'm finally happy to minimize the unnecessary makeup application and stick to the impeccable rule, "less is always more."
